| Climate change is the challenge of our era. Dealing with it dynamically can be the economic engine of a lifetime. Sustainable Hudson Valley is your support system for the green revolution. Sustainable Hudson Valley is a support system for civic and business leaders in creating environmentally advanced communities and building markets for good green jobs. Sustainable Hudson Valley’s mission is to establish the Hudson Valley as a model region for a true green economy, with resilient communities that maintain high quality of life for all in a changing climate. This mission gives rise to a vision of: A vibrant entrepreneurial economy that works for everyone, built on industries that conserve and restore resources, building regional markets for products, services, and ideas; “Green community” initiatives scaling up for visible impacts in reduced energy use and revitalized, distinctive built environments that welcome people and local commerce; Abundant and high quality education and training for a knowledge-based work force, as a signature strength that retains and attracts quality business; Innovative local policies introduced by citizens and elected officials, and enacted with high-quality civic process; A visible cultural shift away from consumption and overwork, into higher quality lives of balance, creativity, citizenship, mutual self-help and personal growth; Effective collaboration among centers of expertise, local governments, institutional networks and business groups to solve problems and reinvent the place they call home. We have been introducing innovative strategies [link to “creative output” in box below] to local, county and business networks since 2005. We are a voice of asset-based, whole-systems thinking and compassionate engagement, to draw forth the creativity that is waiting to be tapped in our communities. Our work is guided by a simple yet carefully conceived model of change, implemented by talented interdisciplinary professionals. CONCRETE SHARED VISION + FLEXIBLE SUPPORTS AND TOOLS + MOTIVATED IMPLEMENTATION = PROGRESS Each of our three program areas focuses on one dimension of the model: vision, support through a regional knowledge network, and motivation through challenge campaigns. With global, federal and state movements taking shape and the opportunities for local leadership greater than ever, we see 2010 as a pivotal year. We are responding with a regional initiative, the Ten Percent Challenge campaign. In partnership with many local and Valley-wide organizations, this campaign supports communities, businesses, institutions - and everyone! - in achieving 10% cuts in carbon footprint while getting ten percent of your people involved. |
